Besiktas keen to sign Cremonese star Emanuel Aiwu as talks stall with Manchester United for Eric Bailly
As revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Besiktas have decided to explore alternative options for a centre-back signing, even though they have reached an agreement on personal terms with Manchester United star Eric Bailly.
Just two days ago, Romano confirmed that there was an agreement on personal terms with the Ivorian centre-back, and the Turkish side expressed strong interest in adding him to their squad.
The transfer expert also mentioned that the next stage was to initiate discussions with United to find the most suitable transfer solution.
However, recent developments suggest that this situation hasn’t advanced as expected. A new update hints that the potential deal with the African defender might be on the verge of collapse.
Besiktas have now shifted their focus to Cremonese centre-back Emanuel Aiwu. The Super Lig side has initiated contact with the Italian team by submitting an initial offer for the defender.
It is understood that this surprising move is directly linked to the halted negotiations with Man United for Bailly. As things stand, the chances of striking a deal between the two parties are now slim.
However, to ease United’s burden, Cremonese have rejected Besiktas’s bid for Aiwu. It is said that the player has also said no to championship clubs amid a sudden surge of interest in the defender.
The Red Devils would need to get back into the game and make sure that the deal is still alive. Bailly is surplus to requirements in the present United squad, and it makes sense to let him leave.
No exact details have been provided explaining the complexity of the deal. We believe that there could be various reasons behind the stalling of the deal. Besiktas will also be extra careful about Bailly’s persistent injury issues.
It’s possible that the Turkish side emphasised the value of investing extra money in a defender who can maintain consistent fitness.
While Bailly is undoubtedly a skilled player when he’s active on the field, establishing himself as a top-notch centre-back becomes challenging with an injury record as problematic as his.
If United can meet on common ground with the Turkish side, then there is a chance that Besiktas might be convinced to make a deal, irrespective of the player’s issues.
