Manchester United pulled out of Harry Kane race due to Bayern Munich preference
The pursuit for former Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane was abandoned by Manchester United because they felt he preferred a move to Bayern Munich, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro].
Spurs have sold the England international to the Bavarians in the ongoing transfer window for a £120 million package fee. The 30-year-old has signed a four-year contract at the Allianz Arena side after ending his stint at the North London side.
However, initially, at the start of the ongoing transfer window, the Old Trafford side had hoped to get a hold of Kane’s signature. Erik ten Hag was looking to bolster his attack.
However, the Red Devils cooled their interest in the English skipper because they did not want to get involved in a bidding war. Also, they felt the striker would have leaned towards a move to Bayern due to their ability to challenge for the Champions League.
Kane has been one of the best players in the world for some time now. However, despite the forward performing at a top level consistently, he was unable to attain any major silverware.
Therefore, it is understandable that the English chose to sign for the Bavarians. The Allianz Arena side are guaranteed trophies almost every year.
As for United, while Ten Hag has managed to turn things around at the Old Trafford side, we still have a long way to go to challenge for the Premier League and UCL.
Having moved on from Kane, the Red Devils ended up signing Rasmus Hojund from Atalanta this summer. The Denmark international is not as established as the former Tottenham star. However, he has showcased immense potential.
