Real Sociedad have ‘ruled out’ signing Manchester United star Donny van de Beek
As per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Real Sociedad are ready to abandon their pursuit of signing Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek this summer.
The Spanish team had been engaged in discussions with the Red Devils regarding the potential permanent transfer of the Dutch player.
Nevertheless, Sociedad have redirected their efforts towards securing Dynamo Moscow star Arsen Zakharyan.
As per Deportivo, La Real will have no intentions of pursuing a transfer for Van de Beek once Zakharyan’s signing is finalised. This comes as a huge blow to United’s plans to offload their players.
United recently approved the transfer of Fred to Fenerbahce. But their ongoing discussions with Sociedad have not yielded any positive results.
The Spanish club are confident in securing Zakharyan for a fee of €12 million. It has been stated that the potential suitor recently put forward an offer to acquire Van de Beek on a loan arrangement with a buy option.
However, United specified that they sought a compulsory purchase clause with higher fee demands. Despite the marginal disparity in transfer fees, the La Liga side has opted for Zakharyan, primarily due to his significantly lower weekly wage compared to the 26-year-old Dutch star.
Given his age, along with his considerable experience of 89 appearances for Dynamo Moscow, La Real views the Russian player as a wiser investment.
Initially, Van de Beek appeared to be a potential contender to fill the void left by David Silva at the Reale Arena.
This development is a huge setback for Man United, potentially extending the timeline for Van de Beek‘s departure. The former Ajax player has clearly struggled to adjust to the demands of the Premier League, and a transfer makes sense.
There is no fresh interest in the United star at the moment, though the club remains open to last-minute offers.
Both the player and the club may be hoping that the focus on Zakharyan is simply a negotiating tactic to convince United to bend to their demands.
