Dimitar Berbatov predicts Manchester United or Chelsea to win Premier League title

Manchester United icon Dimitar Berbatov has predicted either the Old Trafford side or Chelsea to win the Premier League in the 2023/24 term.

Last season, the Red Devils found some stability under Erik ten Hag and managed to get into the Champions League spots, finishing third in the table. On the other hand, the Blues had a campaign to forget and ended up 12th in the rankings.

Manchester City managed to be the eventual champions. Arsenal gave the Cityzens tough competition until the final weeks of the campaign. However, the Gunners were unable to keep pace with Pep Guardiola’s team.

Going into next season, Berbatov has United or Chelsea in the running to be English top-flight champions. Speaking to Betfair (h/t Metro), the Bulgarian, who won two league titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, wants the Old Trafford side to break their drought.

“I won’t say Manchester City again. I obviously want Manchester United to win the Premier League title. I think the Premier League champions will be Manchester United or Chelsea.”

United are showing signs of progress since the arrival of Ten Hag. The Dutch manager got off to a shaky start in the 2022/23 term, losing to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford in the opening two matches.

However, the gaffer ended up getting us the Carabao Cup. We also made it to the FA Cup final, only to lose to treble winners City. With the singing the Old Trafford side have made this summer, a title charge is not unthinkable.

But Chelsea are a surprising shout to be PL champions next year. The Blues have seen three managers come and go over the last few months. Mauricio Pochettino is a decent manager. However, getting the Stamford Bridge side to glory in the league looks like a tough ask for now.

United last won the PL in Ferguson’s last season in charge in 2012/13. Established managers like Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have come and gone without success. Will Ten Hag be the one to take us to glory? Only time will tell.
