Eric Bailly has agreed on terms for a move to Besiktas from Manchester United
Manchester United centre-back Eric Bailly has agreed terms with Besiktas regarding a move in the ongoing transfer window, according to Sports Digitale Editor-in-Chief Yagiz Sabuncuoglu on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
As things stand, the Red Devils consider the defender a must-sell this summer. To that end, the Old Trafford side have been actively working on the Ivory Coast international’s departure after his disappointing loan spell at Olympique Marseille.
Now, the defender is close to a switch to Turkey. He has already come to a consensus on a three-year contract at United. However, the 29-year-old wants to negotiate with the Red Devils to terminate his contract.
United signed Bailly in the summer of 2016 from Villarreal. The defender played well under Jose Mourinho during his debut campaign at the Old Trafford side.
Unfortunately, the Ivorian has failed to make a mark at the Manchester-based club since then. The centre-back has suffered injuries season after season and has been unable to play for us consistently.
Even at Marseille in the 2022/23 term, Bailly failed to get regular minutes in France. The defender was a bit-part player for Igor Tudor at the Ligue 1 outfit in the previous campaign and started in just five league games.
At the moment, United have Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in their backline. The French and Argentine nationals formed an impressive pairing at the Manchester-based club in the previous campaign.
We also have Victor Lindelof in our ranks. The Swedish national was the preferred backup in the Red Devils’ defence for Erik ten Hag last season. Luke Shaw also played in central defence on a few occasions for the Dutch manager.

Bailly seems to be surplus to requirements. He has evidently not been up to the Old Trafford side’s standards over the years. But it remains to be seen whether the Ivorian’s move to Besiktas will materialise in the coming weeks.
