Everton set £25 million price tag on Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite is valued at £25 million by Everton in the ongoing transfer window, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils have been tentatively linked with a move for the English national this summer. In case of departures from the Old Trafford side’s backline in the coming weeks, the 21-year-old is on the club’s radar as a reinforcement.

As things stand, Harry Maguire could part ways with Man United this summer. To that end, West Ham United have had a bid rejected by the Manchester-based club for him.

The 30-year-old has been at the club for several years now. However, since Erik ten Hag’s arrival the defender has lost his influence in the team. The England international has also lost the captain’s armband.

Branthwaite is an exciting talent who shone at PSV Eindhoven last season. Having signed for Everton in the summer of 2019 from Carlisle United, the defender has been unable to break into the Toffees’ starting lineup.

However, the English national put in some encouraging displays in the Eredivisie last season. He made 36 appearances in all competitions for the Philips Stadion side, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

At United, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane were Ten Hag’s preferred duo in the previous campaign. The two World Cup winners have formed a solid partnership at the Old Trafford side.

The Dutch manager also called upon Victor Lindelof often to provide cover in the backline. However, Maguire saw himself fall down in the pecking order.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see the former Leicester City star leave the club this summer. However, will Branthwaite be the one to add depth to our ranks? Only time will tell. But it would seem wise for the youngster to further his development where game time is guaranteed.
