Manchester United have intensified their interest in FC Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka
According to Sky Sports (h/t The Express), Manchester United have intensified their interest in 28-year-old FC Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.
Goretzka had been a regular starter for Bayern but since Thomas Tuchel was appointed the manager of the German club, he has seen his game time reduced and has fallen down the pecking order.
This has brought the attention of a host of clubs, including United, over acquiring the services of the German international whose current contract at Bayern expires in June 2026, hence Bayern are in a position to ask for a big fee.
Goretzka, 28, has a plethora of experience both at the club and international level and could be a shrewd addition to many top teams.
A high-level athlete who is a willing runner and provides strength and technical security in the middle of the park, Goretzka could be really suited to the Premier League if he indeed makes the move.
Goretzka could be a good addition to the current United squad under Erik Ten Hag who are in the market for a 8 who can contribute to both attack and defence and partner Casemiro.
While Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat has been described as the primary target to fill the role, Goretzka could enter the list although the two mentioned players are of very different profiles.

Hence, in the end, it would depend on Ten Hag and what he feels is the right profile required for the team. Also, Amrabat’s contract situation at Fiorentina which expires at the end of next season as compared to Goretzka’s at Bayern, could prove to be a deciding factor.
