Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson transfer is in peril after Nottingham Forest bid for Matt Turner
Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson sees his hopes of joining Premier League side Nottingham Forest has been left in jeopardy after a recent revelation made by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Forest have now submitted a bid for Arsenal star Matt Turner, even after showing concrete interest in United’s Henderson.
According to the Sun, the English star’s transfer hopes have been dashed due to his potential suitor’s recent bid for Turner.
Steve Cooper’s side have made a proposal for a permanent move, and discussions are said to be progressing well.
The 29-year-old American has featured in limited matches under manager Mikel Arteta and is now close to leaving the club.
Turner joined the Gunners last year from the New England Revolution for an initial fee of £5.75m. The potential deal with Nottingham Forest could pave the way for Arsenal to pursue Brentford’s David Raya as his replacement.
Initial rumours suggested that Man United were seeking £30m for the former Sheffield United loanee, but recent reports indicate that they may be open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
However, it remains unclear if the potential deal for Turner indicates any difficulty in securing Henderson or if Turner would serve as a backup option to Henderson at Forest.
It was expected that the English keeper would depart the club this summer after the Red Devils signed former Inter Milan star Andre Onana this summer.
Despite the uncertainty in United’s goalkeeping department, Henderson’s role in Erik ten Hag’s plans is still not clear. Onana is set to start the campaign as the number one goalkeeper, while Tom Heaton will serve as the backup option.
The club recently waved goodbye to young keeper Nathan Bishop, who joined Sunderland this week.
Henderson wants to play regularly, but it is difficult for him to get those chances at Old Trafford. The club would need time to plan for a new backup keeper in case the 26-year-old leaves the club.
However, the situation has been tricky at this moment. Despite the potential headache for Ten Hag, Man United should remain firm in their stance regarding the talented keeper.
The experienced shot-stopper’s abilities are likely to attract interest from other clubs, even if Forest pursue Turner as an alternative.
