Manchester United sign young Watford full-back Harry Amass on a four-year contract
As revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have finalised the signing of promising 16-year-old defender Harry Amass from Watford, who will be joining the club’s academy this summer.
The talented teenager, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time, has signed a four-year contract with the club.
Despite Watford’s efforts to keep hold of their young prodigy by offering him a professional contract beyond his scholarship deal, Amass has chosen to make the move to Man United.
The talented full-back has been with Watford since the age of nine. During his time at the Vicarage Road, Amass showcased his potential by featuring for both the U18 and U21 squads, delivering notable performances against Everton and Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup of the previous season.
He has also represented England at the youth level, making his debut for the U15 team in December 2021 at the age of 14, and he is currently part of the England U16 squad.
The highly-rated defender is set to become part of the England U17 squad for the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup.
The promising young player is set to join the Red Devil’s youth academy with the club aiming to nurture his talent and potentially promote him to the first team in the future.
He is now part of the ongoing transfer drive which saw Mason Mount and Andre Onana join Erik ten Hag’s side this summer. Furthermore, United are nearing the completion of a deal to secure the services of Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Amass showcases remarkable technical skills and tactical intelligence beyond his years, making an impact in both the attacking and defensive aspects of play.
The fact that United have offered Amass a four-year contract reflects the club’s confidence in his abilities, making him a valuable investment for the future.
While it may take some time for the wonderkid to grace the Old Trafford pitch in a United jersey, he will play a significant role in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November.
As the reigning champions, England aims to defend their title, and Amass hopes to contribute to their success in the tournament. This event offers an excellent opportunity to closely observe the full-back’s abilities and potential.
Meanwhile, at the club level, Luke Shaw currently holds the position of the first-choice left-back. However, Amass could present strong competition for the 27-year-old and might even challenge him for the starting spot in the future.
