Manchester United star Marcus Rashford wants to score more headed goals and have confidence in his left foot

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford wants to further improve his game by adding headed goals and increase the use of his left foot.

Out of the 76 Premier League goals the England international has scored in 239 appearances, only seven have come from his head. 58 goals from the right foot and 11 from the left (Premier League Stats).

For a player who either plays as an inside winger or a number nine, versatility in finishing off the chances is key to confusing defenders all the time. If the opposition knows Rashford is only potent from his right foot, they can block that off and offer him a chance to shoot from the left or win aerials in the box.

The 25-year-old talks about in detail and mentions the two areas of his game he needs to improve going forward (h/t The Overlap, via Manchester Evening News):

“I think there’s always elements I can add to my game and it’s important to work on your strengths. You want to get your weaknesses as good as they can get, but they are more often than not always going to be a little bit behind your strengths.

“Mine [weaknesses] are my left foot and heading – I always want to work on them. My heading is getting better, but I feel like I should score more because I out jump most people. If I’m in the position in the right areas in the box, I should be getting seven to ten headed goals a season – I feel like I can do that, and I’ll be pushing to do that next year.

“For me, my left foot is just about confidence and when I’m confident I’ll score with it. When I’m not confident, it just never goes right on my left foot.”

It is quite refreshing to see an elite player understand where he needs to improve to put further pressure on the opposition defenders.

Rashford had an outstanding season last time around when he scored 30 goals and assisted 11 in 56 appearances in all competitions. His goals were key in United finishing third in the league and winning silverware after six years.

The Red Devils have bolstered the forward line with the addition of Rasmus Hojlund. But, given how impressive Rashford was, the pressure would be on him to repeat the dosage in the coming season and become the focal point of the United attack.
