Real Sociedad are interested in Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek
According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t the Sun), Real Sociedad in talks to sign Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek to Spain.
Van de Beek was sparingly used under Ole Gunnar Solksjaer but many believed that the incoming of Erik Ten Hag, his manager at previous club Ajax, would change the Dutchman’s fortune at Old Trafford.
However, a season-ending injury prevented Van de Beek from really staking a claim for a place in the United starting eleven and now looks set to be on the way out.
Ten Hag is ready to sell the attacking midfielder again with Sociedad the team showing the most concrete interest until now while there have been talks of a return to Ajax.
Although Van de Beek did score a wonderful volley in the pre-season friendly against Lyon, his future at the club is far from certain and the club could use him to raise more funds and acquire targets.
Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat is on top of United’s list to make the move to Old Trafford which would in all probability signal the end of Van de Beek’s time at the club.
The rise of Kobbie Mainoo in addition to the signing of Mason Mount has put the Dutch international way down the pecking order and unless he gives a very strong pre-season, there are slim chances he will be at the club come the first game of the Premier League season.
At the same time, Van de Beek was not selected for the FIFA World Cup squad due to a lack of game time at the club level and could end up missing out on the Euros 2024 Championship squad if the situation does not improve.
