The Red Devils spend an astronomical fee luring Rasmus Hojlund to Old Trafford
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have agreed a fee with Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund.
The journalist used his well-known phrase “here we go” on Twitter to announce that Hojlund will be the club’s next signing this summer.
This is the long-awaited news for United fans this summer, as the club has been in dire need of a prolific goal scorer for the upcoming season.
Hojlund seems to be the perfect player for Erik ten Hag, as the Serie A ace wanted to move to Old Trafford. Such was his dedication that he even hired the SEG agency to secure his move to Man United.
And now, the club has agreed to a fee worth €75 million plus €10m in add-ons for the 20-year-old. United were unable to convince Atalanta to secure a deal for a lower price.
As per journalist David Ornstein, Hojlund is ready to pen a five-year contract with an option to extend it to an additional year.
The young striker only wanted to move to Man United amid huge interest from French giants Paris Saint-Germain. Amid all the rumours, he stuck to his decision to join his dream club.
The club will be keen on finalising the deal swiftly to ensure the player can participate in their pre-season preparations.
If all goes according to plan, Hojlund could potentially make his debut appearance for United at Old Trafford during a friendly match against Lens next Saturday. The following day, the team will travel to Dublin to face Athletic Bilbao in another pre-season game.
Atalanta decided not to include Hojlund in their friendly victory against Bournemouth on Saturday to avoid the risk of any potential injury that could jeopardise his transfer.
The Danish international is all set to be United’s third major signing of the summer. This follows the club’s previous acquisitions of midfielder Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The English giants faced challenges in the attacking department during the 2022-23 season, despite their success in the Carabao Cup and qualification for the Champions League.
As a temporary solution, they brought in Wout Weghorst on loan, and when fit, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial also played in the central striker position.
However, Ten Hag never had a lethal striker at his disposal- a player who could consistently contribute to goals for the team. Hojlund fits the right profile, and he can develop even further under the Dutch boss.
It goes without saying that the young striker is an upgrade, even though we must all remember that he’s a prospect for the future.
