West Ham United’s opening offer for Harry Maguire has been rejected by Manchester United
According to David Ornstein via Twitter, Manchester United have rejected a £20m bid by West Ham United for 30-year-old centre-back Harry Maguire.
Maguire has emerged as one of the targets for the Hammers with David Moyes keen to recruit the England International who has seemingly fallen out of favour at United.
Many believe it is in the best interest of all parties involved that Maguire is moved on this summer. It would be beneficial for his career, which has stagnated whilst it would allow United to recoup some of the huge transfer fee that was paid to Leicester City.
West Ham have seen their opening bid rejected but may come back with an improved offer in the coming days. With Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal, there is certainly no shortage of capital at the London club to improve their squad.
Maguire has recently been stripped of the captain’s armband at United, replaced by Bruno Fernandes, which further ignites the topic that the club are willing to sell him this summer window.
Already way down in the pecking order behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and even Luke Shaw, there is no way back for Maguire at United.
Euros 2024 Championships are right around the corner and his performances this season will have a considerable part to play in deciding whether he is in Gareth Southgate’s plans.
