Scott McTominay sale could open door for Sofyan Amrabat transfer to Manchester United
Manchester United could pursue the signing of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat if Scott McTominay were to leave this summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils are open to parting ways with the Scotland international in the ongoing transfer window if a decent offer arrives. West Ham United are interested in him and the Old Trafford side value the 26-year-old £40–£50 million.
As things stand, McTominay’s current contract at Man United runs until the summer of 2025. But the Scottish national has lost his place in the team under Erik ten Hag. The Hammers are looking to add reinforcements to their engine room in the ongoing transfer window after losing Declan Rice to Arsenal.
Amrabat has caught a lot of people’s attention over the last year and is one of the 10 names on the Red Devils’ shortlist to bolster the engine room. The Morocco international has been at Fiorentina since 2020. But the midfielder’s performances this season have shot him into the limelight.
The 26-year-old made it to the UEFA Conference League final with the Florence-based club. He was also pivotal to the Atlas Lions’ run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals.
At the moment, Amrabat is set to become a free agent next summer. Therefore, Man United could arguably get the Moroccan for a cut-price fee in the coming weeks.
Although the Red Devils already have Casemiro in their ranks, the Brazilian’s absence from the team last season was detrimental to us. Without the former Real Madrid star, Ten Hag does not have a quality option to provide cover in the number six position.
Thus, a move for Amrabat seemingly makes sense in that regard. But will the 26-year-old want to join the Old Trafford side to play a potential backup role? Only time will tell.
