Galatasaray agree personal terms with Manchester United midfielder Fred
30-year-old Manchester United star Fred has agreed terms with Turkish giants Galatasaray ahead of a potential transfer this summer, according to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Super Lig outfit are interested in acquiring the services of the Brazil international in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, contract talks are ‘not expected’ to be an issue for the Istanbul-based club and the midfielder.
However, a gap in valuation still exists between the two clubs regarding a move for the 30-year-old. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold, with Fulham looking to get a hold of his signature as well.
United signed Fred in the summer of 2018 from Shakhtar Donetsk. His current deal with the Red Devils is set to expire next summer (transfermarkt). The Old Trafford side are aiming to cash in on the Brazilian and move on quickly to get a replacement.
The midfielder has been a pivotal player for us over the years. However, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag in the Manchester-based club’s dugout, the 30-year-old’s influence in the starting lineup has diminished.
Fred was not the first name on the team sheet last season. The Brazilian made 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing six assists. However, most of the midfielder’s playing time came off the bench.
At United, the addition of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer gave the Dutch manager his preferred duo in the midfield pivot positions. The former Real Madrid star and the Danish national seemed to be the gaffer’s first choice in the engine room in the 2022/23 term.

We have now added Mason Mount to our ranks. Fred provides great industry and energy whenever he plays. However, considering the Brazilian’s age and contract situation, it seems like the right time to part ways with him.
