Marcel Sabitzer delighted to have played for Manchester United

Former Manchester United star Marcel Sabitzer is delighted to have featured for the Red Devils while on loan at the club from Bayern Munich.

The Old Trafford side acquired the services of the Austria international on deadline day in January 2023. Subsequently, the 29-year-old played a key role under Erik ten Hag.

Now, the midfielder has signed for Borussia Dortmund on a permanent deal in the ongoing transfer window. He has joined the Allianz Arena side’s bitter rivals after finding opportunities hard to come by with the Bavarians.

Bayern signed Sabitzer in the summer of 2021 from RB Leipzig. At Die Roten Bullen, the midfielder has established himself as one of the best players in Germany. However, the Austrian’s career stalled at the Allianz Arena side.

Subsequently, the 29-year-old was given a lifeline at United. He put in some impressive displays at the Old Trafford side, making 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Sabitzer is glad he made his way to the Red Devils in the previous transfer window. The midfielder feels he refound his rhythm at the Manchester-based club.

“I was very impressed by the fact of having played for a club of such stature. I had a smile every day at the thought of being there and playing.

“It’s also because I had playing time [at United] that I found my rhythm and my self-confidence. I showed good things there and that has an impact because a year and a half ago everyone doubted me. When you can prove again that you can play a part in big clubs like this, it’s good for confidence.”

Sabitzer ended up being an inspiring addition to United’s squad. With the injuries to Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen in January 2023, we evidently needed to add more depth to the team.

Casemiro also ended up picking multiple suspensions over the course of the 2022/23 term. Having a quality player like the Austrian in our ranks paid dividends in that scenario.

Unfortunately, the 29-year-old injured himself just before the end of the season and was unable to help us in the FA Cup final. But he ended up being a great servant for United. Hopefully, the midfielder will thrive in the next chapter of his career.
