According to the club’s official website, Manchester United youngster Will Fish will be returning to Hibernian Football Club on a season-long loan deal.

Surprisingly, the announcement was made through an amusing video posted on Twitter by the Scottish club.

This move highlights that transfer announcements can be both brilliant and humorous, even with limited financial resources.

Fish’s journey with Man United began in their youth system, where he captained both the Under-18 and Under-21 teams. He also earned one senior appearance, coming on as a substitute in a Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers in May 2021.

The 20-year-old had an impressive pre-season under Erik ten Hag, featuring in the initial three games against Leeds, Lyon, and Wrexham.

Despite his good performances, it was unlikely that he would continue with the first team for the upcoming season.

As a result, the defender will be heading back to Scotland, where he played a significant role for Hibs in the latter part of the previous season.

Under manager Lee Johnson, Fish initially had a slow start at Hibs. However, his fortunes changed when the club sold centre-back Ryan Porteous to Watford early in the year.

This created an opportunity for the youngster, and he grabbed it with both hands, stepping into the defensive vacancy left by Porteous. From there on, he impressed and went on to start 17 consecutive league games until the end of the season.

United recognises the value of this playing experience for Fish‘s development, and as a result, they believe that continuing his loan spell at Hibs is the best option for his progression at this stage.

Hence, he is set to return to Easter Road for another season. His loan club will be participating in the Conference League this year.

Following Fish’s move to Hibernian, Rhys Bennett and Willy Kambwala are United’s main centre-back options at the Under-21 level.

However, during pre-season, the experienced Jonny Evans has been involved with the youth set-up, providing additional support and guidance to the young defenders.

Loan deals require careful consideration to strike the right balance. For a young player, it is crucial to secure enough regular playing time on the first team of the new club to establish themselves and continue their growth.

However, the level of competition they face must be challenging to understand their current abilities and push them to improve.

Throughout this process, the new club and dressing room should welcome the youngster, providing a supportive environment that feels like a second home.
