Luton Town leading race for Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri
Premier League new boys Luton Town are leading the race to sign Manchester United star Hannibal Mejbri in the ongoing transfer window, according to TEAMtalk (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Bedfordshire-based club are interested in acquiring the services of the 20-year-old this summer. To that end, the Hatters are the ‘frontrunners’ in the pursuit of getting a hold of the Tunisia international’s signature.
In the previous campaign, the youngster was on a temporary move at Birmingham City. During pre-season, the midfielder has been impressive. But he could leave on loan once again.
Luton will be playing in the English top flight once again for the first time since the 1991/92 term. They beat Coventry City in the play-offs to secure a place in the PL.
Now, the newly promoted team will evidently need to strengthen their squad to have a chance at surviving the drop. To that end, youth and experience are seemingly going to be key for them.
Hannibal has been a big part of United’s youth sides over the years. However, the midfielder has found game time hard to come by in the first team.
Subsequently, the Tunisian was given much-needed opportunities at Birmingham. The 20-year-old made 41 appearances in all competitions for the Championship outfit last season, scoring one goal and providing six assists.
Hannibal proved that he is capable of doing well in the second tier of English football. The next step would arguably be seeing how the youngster will be able to perform in the PL.

The 20-year-old needs to play regularly to further his development. However, it remains to be seen whether Luton will be the midfielder’s next destination.
