Eric Bailly ‘closing in’ on Al-Nassr transfer from Manchester United

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly is ‘closing in’ on a move to Al-Nassr in the ongoing transfer window, according to journalist Marc Mechenoua on Twitter via Caught Offside (h/t Manchester Evening News).

As things stand, the Old Trafford side are looking to part ways with the 29-year-old this summer. The centre-back has been listed as a must-sell player by the club.

The Saudi Pro League outfit are interested in acquiring the services of the Ivory Coast international. To that end, talks between the Red Devils and the Riyadh-based club are ‘progressing well’.

Al-Nassr signed Cristiano Ronaldo in January after the Portuguese left United mid-way through the 2022/23 term. In the ongoing transfer window, the Saudi Pro League outfit have also signed Alex Telles from the Red Devils.

Saudi Arabia has been investing heavily in their top flight in recent weeks. The likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Jordan Henderson, Ruben Neves and other big stars have made their way to the Middle Eastern country this summer.

As for Bailly, he has been at the Old Trafford side since signing from Villarreal in the summer of 2016. The Ivorian had a decent debut campaign at the Manchester-based club.

Unfortunately, since then, United have been unable to rely on the defender consistently due to his fitness issues. The 29-year-old’s game time has dwindled at the Red Devils. In the previous campaign, the centre-back struggled to find minutes while on loan at Olympique Marseille.

It looks like the right time to part ways with Bailly. The Old Trafford side arguably have much better options than the Ivorian in their backline at the moment.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane formed a solid partnership under Erik ten Hag last season. The Dutch manager also has the likes of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at his disposal for now.

Therefore, it seems wise to cash in on Bailly. But whether United will be able to reach a consensus with Al-Nassr remains to be seen.
