Chelsea leading Ajax Amsterdam attacker Mohammed Kudus race amidst Manchester United interest
Premier League rivals Chelsea are leading the race for Ajax Amsterdam star Mohammed Kudus amidst interest from Manchester United, according to the Independent (h/t The Sun).
As things stand, the Blues are the frontrunners to acquire the services of the Ghana international in the ongoing transfer window. However, the Eredivisie outfit value him at around £40 million.
Arsenal are also looking to get a hold of the youngster’s services this summer. However, the Stamford Bridge side are confident of being able to pip the Gunners to the attacker’s signature.
The Red Devils, along with Brighton & Hove Albion, have also been linked with Kudus. But it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will opt to compete with the West London club for the 22-year-old.
Ajax signed the Ghanaian in the summer of 2020. Back then, Erik ten Hag was still the manager of the Amsterdam-based club. However, under the Dutch manager, the attacker was a bit-part player.
However, last season, Kudus came into his own and was the Eredivisie outfit’s talisman. He made 42 appearances in all competitions for them, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists.
The 22-year-old most played as a right winger or as a number nine in the previous campaign. United signed Antony last summer from Ajax. The Brazilian was the gaffer’s preferred option on the right-hand side of the forward line in his first year in charge.
As for the striking department, the Dutch manager lacks options. Anthony Martial is the only natural option at the former Ajax head coach’s disposal to deploy centrally up front.

Therefore, we evidently need to add more depth to the attack. But will Chelsea, who have already signed the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackosn this summer, add Kudus to their ranks? Only time will tell.
