Manchester United could sign Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat this summer
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Express), Premier League giants Manchester United are keen to get a deal over the line for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in the summer transfer window.
The Moroccan international is one of the players to shine at last year’s World Cup in Qatar and has come out of the tournament with his reputation greatly enhanced. The Red Devils are in need of a defensive midfielder and Amrabat certainly fits the bill to a tee.
At 26, he is entering his prime and can become the bedrock of our midfield for years to come. A mobile player with energy to burn, he is a more athletic and dynamic version of both Scott McTominay and Fred. To call him an upgrade would be an understatement.
Amrabat has just 11 months left on his contract at Fiorentina and could leave for free next year. This has hastened the Italian side’s resolve to sell him this summer, potentially to our benefit.
Manchester United are expected to make their move in the coming days and secure the Moroccan on a cut-price deal. A price of £25.9m has been mooted, a definite bargain for a player of Amrabat’s calibre.
According to Corriere Fiorentino via Sport Witness (h/t The Express), the Red Devils could make an offer as early as this weekend. There appears to be an urgency from all parties involved to get the deal over the line as quickly as possible.
Given the quoted price, it is a no-brainer for the Red Devils to land the 26-year-old. They will be hard-pressed to find a player of a similar calibre for the same price and will be well-advised to move fast sans any late surprises.
