Alex Telles’s move to Al-Nassr has been sealed as the United full-back enters a new chapter in his career
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United full-back Alex Telles has completed his medical with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
This move will reunite him with former United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined the Middle Eastern side in January.
Initially, it was stated that Al Nassr had put their move for the Brazilian defender on hold and were exploring other options for the left-back position.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, there has been a change of plans within the last 24 hours. The 29-year-old successfully completed the primary part of his medical examination with the Riyadh-based club earlier today.
According to Romano, the Saudi-based club has sent the necessary signed contracts to Man United, and the deal is now finalised. The transfer of the Brazilian defender is now considered complete and sealed.
Telles faced challenges in securing regular game time at United during the previous season after joining in a £15.4 million move from Porto. As a result, the decision for the Red Devils to sell him to Al Nassr is deemed sensible, allowing them to cash in on the player.
Luke Shaw is firmly established as the Red Devils first-choice left-back, with Tyrell Malacia signed as his backup. Telles, who served as the third-choice left-back at Old Trafford, was in search of regular playing time.
The 30-year-old still has the potential to become a key player for the Saudi Arabian club and revitalise his career with consistent appearances in the first team.
Now, he sees the move to Saudi Arabia as an opportunity for a fresh start and the transfer could potentially lead to a lucrative contract for the player.
Telles faced high expectations, but unfortunately, his time at Old Trafford didn’t pan out as he had hoped.
Meanwhile, United may use the funds from his sale to make new signings. Although the club didn’t get a huge fee from Telles’ sale (£4 million), they may still use it for further summer additions.
Meanwhile, United are in need of strengthening their attacking options. The club’s focus will be on bringing in new players after offloading surplus talent.
Manager Erik ten Hag would be aiming to assemble a squad capable of challenging for both the domestic league title and the UEFA Champions League. To compete with top teams like Manchester City, the Red Devils should set their sights on top-quality signings.
Up to this point, the Red Devils have successfully signed Mason Mount and Andre Onana, but they are facing Financial Fair Play constraints, making it challenging to bring in more players without offloading some of their current ones.
While acquiring new players was always going to be difficult, the club has made a decent start in their transfer activities.
However, the focus now shifts to the players leaving the club, as their departures will determine the number of additional signings they can make this summer.
