David Moyes, the manager of West Ham United, has refused to speak about speculation regarding links to Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

The Hammers have been associated with the England international in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Irons are considering acquiring the centre-back’s services this summer, either on loan or a permanent deal.

However, speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Moyes, who had a stint in United’s dugout, rebuffed the question regarding the former Leicester City star.

“Well, I couldn’t tell you anything because I think talking about players from other clubs who are under contracts, that’s not the right thing to do, so I’d never do that.”

As things stand, the Red Devils are willing to part ways with the 30-year-old in the coming weeks. The Old Trafford side are looking to recoup £50 million for him.

United signed Maguire in the summer of 2019. Subsequently, he became a key player for the Manchester-based club and was even handed the captain’s armband. However, with his influence under Erik ten Hag dwindling, the defender has been stripped of the armband.

West Ham’s backline consists of players like Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd. However, they could arguably use a player like the Red Devils’ 30-year-old with vast experience, considering the Hammers will be playing in the Europa League.

At United, Maguire has fallen down the pecking order since the former Ajax Amsterdam head coach’s arrival. The English national has struggled for consistency at the Old Trafford side. But the defender has still been able to perform well for the Three Lions when called upon by Gareth Southgate.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have formed a solid partnership at the Red Devils under Ten Hag. Victor Lindelof was also a decent backup last season. Therefore, it looks like Maguire’s stint at the Theatre of Dreams is coming to a conclusion. Whether Moyes’ team will be the 30-year-old’s next destination remains to be seen.
