Atalanta boss refuses to put deadline on Rasmus Hojlund transfer amidst Manchester United interest
Gian Piero Gasperini, the manager of Atalanta, has refused to put a deadline on the transfer of Rasmus Hojlund amidst interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils are looking to bolster the attack this summer and have identified the Denmark international. As things stand, the Old Trafford side have held talks with La Dea for their striker. However, the club are yet to table a formal bid for the 20-year-old.
Speaking via Italy24 (h/t Manchester Evening News), Gasperini is aware of the unpredictability of the transfer market. As a result, the Italian manager has not ruled out the forward’s exit later in the window.
“Hojlund? Even if we fix a date, put August 15, the transfer market isn’t over. If an [irresistible] offer arrives, the club, the player, decides later.”
Atalanta signed Hojlund from Sturm Graz last summer. Since then, the Danish national has managed to make himself a pivotal player for the Bergamo-based club.
The youngster established himself in Gasperini’s team in the previous campaign. In the 2022/23 term, the striker made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists.
While the 20-year-old’s numbers for the Serie A outfit are decent, he has caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays for the national side. The youngster has been prolific for the Red and Whites over the last few months.
At United, the front line lacks quality and depth. Anthony Martial is the only natural striker at Erik ten Hag’s disposal. Other than that, the gaffer also played Marcus Rashford as the number nine last season.
Unfortunately, the former AS Monaco star has been injury-prone since the Dutch manager’s arrival in the Old Trafford side’s dugout. In January, we had signed Wout Weghorst on loan to provide cover up front.

Therefore, the Red Devils evidently need to reinforce the attack, especially the number nine position. Hojlund is a promising talent with a very high ceiling. However, he arguably needs more time to develop. Whether we will opt to get him this summer remains to be seen.
