Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will have talks with boss Erik ten Hag about his future

As per Sky Sports, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire will have talks with boss Erik ten Hag about his future upon return for the pre-season.

Maguire signed for United in 2019 for a world-record fee for a defender back then. After being captain of the team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the England international was dropped into the fringe role last season under ten Hag.

After a horror show in the first two games last season, ten Hag dropped Maguire from the third game, which was against Liverpool at Old Trafford. Since then, the former Leicester City player hasn’t played much from the start.

It is understood that United have to sell players at a good rate before they can sign some this summer. They have only made one addition to the squad so far – Mason Mount.

A few days ago, the Guardian reported that Maguire’s wage has taken a rise following the Red Devils’ impressive third-placed finish in the league last season, meaning they will play Champions League football next season.

It was also revealed that the pay rise could affect United’s chances of selling the 30-year-old this summer. It seems like the club has to take a pay cut if they are determined to let go of the Englishman.

As of now, ten Hag has Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his first-choice pairing at the back. Victor Lindelof is there as backup and Luke Shaw has played as a centre-back under this manager last season.

Not looking good for Maguire, who must have an eye on the upcoming Euros in Germany next summer. If he continues to sit on the bench at Old Trafford, it might be tough for Gareth Southgate to pick him in the England side for that competition.

Ten Hag virtually relegated Maguire to the outskirts of the team last season. For a player of his ilk, it would be unacceptable. So, it would be great for all parties to part ways this summer.
