Robbie Fowler: Manchester United still be in the race for Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane

Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler believes Manchester United are still in the race to acquire the services of Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane this summer.

Erik ten Hag is keen on signing the England international in the ongoing transfer window. However, the Red Devils feel the North London side will not sell the 29-year-old and have switched focus to other targets.

But speaking to the Daily Mirror (h/t Metro), Fowler, a Premier League great who spent most of his career at Liverpool, does not rule out the Old Trafford side reigniting their pursuit of Spurs’ talisman.

“I simply don’t believe, either, they will have to limit their spending this summer, so a centre forward will arrive too, and I still wouldn’t rule out Harry Kane.

“I believe he’ll stay in the Premier League, because he wants to smash the all-time scoring record.”

Kane made his way through the youth ranks at Tottenham before breaking onto the scene in the 2014/15 season. Subsequently, the English national has kept going and has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world.

The 29-year-old has consistently found the back of the net for the North London side over the years. However, the forward does not have any silverware in his cabinet to back up the individual statistics.

In the previous campaign, Kane carried Spurs’ attack almost single-handedly. Now, the English skippers contract with the Lilywhites has just one year left on it.

United are seemingly in desperate need to add a prolific striker to their ranks. Erik ten Hag was unable to rely on Anthony Martial in the previous campaign due to his fitness issues. We had to sign Wout Weghorst on loan in January to add depth up front.

Thankfully, Marcus Rashford stepped up to the plate and found the back of the net consistently for us last season. However, the English national cannot be expected to carry us week in, week out.

Therefore, a player like Kane would arguably have us competing with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal. However, will the Old Trafford side be able to strike an agreement with Tottenham for the 29-year-old? Only time will tell.
