Harry Maguire set for talks with Erik ten Hag over Manchester United future
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is set to hold talks with Erik ten Hag in the coming days regarding his future at the Old Trafford side.
The England international could be sold by the Red Devils in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the centre-back is expected to hold a discussion with the Dutch manager soon.
Speaking to CaughtOffisde (h/t Manchester Evening News), transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that the 30-year-old could depart Man United this summer. However, for now, there are no indications of West Ham United working to sign him.
“Another story we’re waiting for is Harry Maguire and his talks with Erik ten Hag, it will happen in the next days. At the moment I’m not aware of negotiations with West Ham, they are still busy with the midfielders situation as they have to replace Declan Rice.
“It’s not something imminent, at the moment, but I still think there are chances for Maguire to leave Old Trafford this summer.”
The Old Trafford side signed Maguire in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City. Subsequently, the English national became a key player for us and was also handed the captain’s armband.
Unfortunately, for some time now, the defender has put in encouraging performances at the Manchester-based club. As a result, with the arrival of Ten Hag, the 30-year-old lost his place in the Red Devils starting lineup.
In the previous campaign, Maguire saw himself fall down the pecking order drastically. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane were the gaffer’s preferred duo in the backline.
As backup, the Dutch manager had faith in Victor Lindelof, who featured heavily towards the end of the 2022/23 term. Luke Shaw also featured instead of the former Leicester star as a centre-back on occasions last season and did a decent job.
At West Ham, the 30-year-old will seemingly not have as much competition. The Hammers will also be playing in the Europa League next season and could evidently do with the experience the English national has.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the London Stadium side will opt to pursue Maguire’s services. Arguably, the defender’s stint at Man United looks to be nearing its conclusion.
