Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole positive about what Mason Mount will bring to the club
Legendary Manchester United striker Andy Cole outlines the positive things new signing Mason Mount will bring to the team.
Cole is confident that the England international, who arrived from Chelsea this summer, can push United back to the top in the coming years.
Mount became the first signing for the Reds Devils when they agreed on a deal with the Blues for a fee of around £55m plus the add-ons.
Here’s what Cole said about the 24-year-old and why he is positive about this addition to the squad (h/t Sky Sports, via Manchester Evening News):
“It’s a positive signing, of course it is. I think it’s positive and everything has worked out really well for him.
“He had a difficult season last season at Chelsea, he didn’t really play as many games as he would have liked. I’m hoping he can come to Manchester United and enjoy himself and bring Manchester United to the next stage where they need to be at.”
Erik ten Hag had Mount as his top transfer target to bolster the midfield department. The Dutchman was impressed by the Englishman’s athleticism and technical qualities.
The 24-year-old can play in several positions across the central and attacking midfield. If ten Hag wants to play the 4-3-3 system, he can slot in as one of the number eights. He can also play as a number 10 or a winger on either side.
When we talk about how good Mount was for Chelsea, let’s not include the 2022/23 season. That was one year where he looked out of sorts there, partly due to the mayhem of revolving managers and partly due to injuries.
If we look at the previous two years though, the England international was one of their best players. So, there is no reason to think why he won’t restore that form in a United shirt.

The hope is that the 24-year-old understands ten Hag’s playing system quickly and incorporates that in his game from the pre-season onwards. There is a lot to like about him. United fans would love seeing the technical quality he brings along with his immense work rate.
