Mauricio Pochettino wanted Manchester United-bound Mason Mount to stay at Chelsea
New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wanted Manchester United-bound Mason Mount to stay in the ongoing transfer window, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on CaughtOffisde (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils have agreed to a potential £60 million deal with the Blues to acquire the services of the England international. He has completed his medical, signing a five-year contract with the Old Trafford side.
After the end of last season, the midfielder was set to enter the final 12 months of his deal at the Stamford Bridge side. However, the West London club were unable to make progress on fresh terms.
Subsequently, Chelsea have decided to cash in on the 24-year-old this summer. Although, Pochettino was keen to keep a hold of him as a part of the Argentine gaffer’s summer rebuild.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager took charge of the Blues recently. In the previous campaign, the Stamford Bridge side struggled and went through three different managers.
Now Pochettino has been given the reins at the West London club. The 51-year-old has lost the likes of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic from his engine room as well.
Mount is also set to join United’s ranks. Erik ten Hag already has the likes of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen at his disposal. However, the English national has the quality to make a place for himself in the team.
The midfielder’s addition also adds much-needed quality in depth in our ranks. Donny van de Beek, Fred and Scott McTominay have left a lot to be desired over the years.
