AC Milan join Manchester United in Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong race
Manchester United have been joined by AC Milan in the race for Bayern Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong this summer, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Serie A giants are ‘weighing up’ a move for the Holland national in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Italian outfit look set to swoop in on the Red Devils’ target.
Back in April, the Old Trafford side were in discussions with the full-back regarding a switch from the Bay Arena side. Erik ten Hag is keen on adding a new right-back to the squad.
However, as things stand, talks around the 22-year-old’s potential move to United have gone quiet. The club is focusing on a new number nine and a first-choice shot-stopper. Therefore, it remains to be seen how things unfold regarding the defender.
Leverkusen signed Frimpong in the winter window of 2021 from Celtic. Under Xabi Alonson in the previous campaign, the Holland national came into his own. The full-back showcased his attacking prowess for the Bundesliga outfit.
Milan have the likes of Davide Calabria, Alessandro Florenzi and Pierre Kalulu in their ranks, who are capable of playing on the right-hand side of the defence.
As for United, Diogo Dalot was Ten Hag’s preferred option in the first half of the 2022/2 campaign. Initially, the Portugal international was ever-present in the Dutch manager’s plans.
However, after the 2022 World Cup, the 23-year-old’s form suffered a bit. As a result, Aaron Wan-Bissaka got regular opportunities and did well to get ahead in the pecking order.

Thus, for now, we have two decent options at right-back. Frimpong is a promising player. But he still has a lot to learn. Will Milan be the place where the 22-year-old will further develop his game? Only time will tell.
