Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo is unlikely to return to Sunderland on loan
Kristjaan Speakman, the sporting director of Sunderland, has admitted that it is unlikely that Manchester United star Amad Diallo will join them this summer.
The 20-year-old spent a fruitful spell on loan at the Black Cats in the 2022/23 campaign. Last summer, the Stadium of Light side were able to acquire the Ivory Coast international’s services.
However, speaking to The Northern Echo (h/t Manchester Evening News), Speakman hailed Amad and believes that he is ready to play in the top tier of English football or any other league.
“Can Amad return to Sunderland? I don’t think so. He should be playing in tier one, in England, La Liga, Bundesliga, wherever.
“That’s the level of player he is. The staff here, the players and supporters have helped him get back on that journey and hopefully that will attract more players to want to come to Sunderland.”
At Sunderland, the Ivorian reignited his career. United signed the youngster in the winter window of 2021 from Atalanta. However, the forward hardly got any opportunities at the Old Trafford side.
Subsequently, in the second half of the 2021/22 season, the 20-year-old made his way to Rangers on a temporary move. Unfortunately, the winger failed to make a mark in Scotland.
Then last summer, the Black Cats came calling for the signature of Amad. The Ivorian subsequently thrived at the Stadium of Light side and developed further in the Championship.
The youngster became a key player for Tony Mowbray’s team, finding the back of the net 14 times and providing four assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
At United, it remains to be seen whether Erik ten Hag will give the 20-year-old a chance in the first-team setup. On the right wing, Antony has been the gaffer’s preferred option. However, the Brazilian has been heavily relied on by the Dutch manager.

Therefore, Amad could seemingly provide cover and compete for a place on the right-hand side of the attack. However, if Ten Hag is unable to accommodate him into his plans right now, hopefully, a temporary move to a Premier League outfit will be on the cards for the Ivorian.
