Erik ten Hag speaks with Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana to ‘reassure’ Manchester United transfer
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has spoken with Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana to ‘reassure’ him of a move this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Dutch manager has told his former Ajax Amsterdam star that ‘he will do everything’ to bring the Cameroonian to the Old Trafford side in the ongoing transfer window.
As things stand, the Red Devils are looking to add a new number one to their ranks and are interested in the 27-year-old. However, it remains to be seen whether the club will match the Nerazzurri’s £50–60 million asking price.
Inter signed Onana as a free agent in the summer of 2020 after his departure from Ajax. Subsequently, the Cameroonian has become the undisputed first choice at the Italian outfit.
Initially, Samir Handanovic was ahead of the 27-year-old in the pecking order at the Serie A giants. However, the promising goalkeeper quickly convinced Simone Inzaghi to become one of the first names on the team sheet.
Ten Hag is familiar with Onana, considering the two spent a number of years together in Amsterdam. At the Eredivisie outfit, the Cameroonian developed and grew under the Dutch manager.
At the moment, United’s goalkeeping situation is uncertain. David de Gea is no longer tied down to the club. The Spaniard was the gaffer’s main option in between the sticks last season.
On the other hand, Dean Henderson is not expected to be at the Old Trafford side beyond this summer. It seems likely that the English national will make his way back to Nottingham Forest.
