AC Milan eye Manchester United star Donny van de Beek as Sandro Tonali replacement
AC Milan are apparently eyeing Donny van de Beek of Manchester United as a replacement for Sandro Tonali.
The Italian midfielder will play for Newcastle United next season after the Magpies secured a shock fourth-placed finish last term and secured UEFA Champions League football. But Milan are now a man short.
And not just anyone. Tonali has been key to the way their midfield plays, creating plays from deep and kickstarting counterattacks.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Van de Beek has been eyed as a midfield replacement. The Netherlands international arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in the summer of 2020.
What next for Donny?
But he has struggled massively for playing time here. He was struggling to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team and it has continued under Erik ten Hag as well.
The Dutch manager could have given the player a new life here, considering how much he used Van de Beek in his Ajax team back in the Netherlands. But that wasn’t the case and he played just 163 minutes of Premier League football.
He desperately needs to leave Manchester United if he wants to resurrect his career. Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are more or less given starters every week and Ten Hag tends to prefer Fred, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay over him.

Van de Beek’s contract has two more years left on it (Transfermarkt), so we can hope to recoup some of the £35.7million we paid for him to Ajax three years ago. After the likes of Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Clarence Seedorf, VDB could join a long list of world-class Dutch players to wear the Red Black of AC Milan.
