Leeds United star opts against making Manchester United summer switch

Leeds United defender Robin Koch to snub Manchester United this summer

Robin Koch, currently at Leeds United, is set to snub an approach from Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window, according to Kicker (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Germany international looks set to part ways with the Peacocks this summer after their relegation from the Premier League. To that end, the defender has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave the Elland Road side on a season-long loan before becoming a free agent.

As a result, the Red Devils had the centre-back on their radar as a potential back-up option. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old is keen to move back to his home country.

Koch wants to go back to the Bundesliga. In Germany, the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in acquiring the defender’s services.

Leeds signed the centre-back in the summer of 2020 from Freiburg. The 26-year-old was a key player for the Yorkshire-based club during their stint in the English top flight.

Koch was ever-present in the Elland Road side’s starting lineup in the 2022/23 campaign. However, they were unable to survive the drop and finished 19th in the league table.

Man United have found an impressive centre-back duo in Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane. The two were preferred by Erik ten Hag in the Red Devils’ backline last season.

As a result, the likes of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire played second fiddle. Our captain especially saw himself fall down the pecking order, with Luke Shaw at times starting in the central defensive position over the former Leicester City star.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see the 30-year-old leave this summer. In that case, we will need to bolster our ranks. However, it is understandable that Koch wants to move back to his home country.
