Manchester United on alert as Bayern Munich get serious in their pursuit of signing Harry Kane
According to the Athletic journalist David Ornstein (subscription required), Tottenham Hotspur are set to reject Bayern Munich’s €70 million offer for Manchester United target Harry Kane.
Kane has been the subject of transfer speculation this summer, with Man United also expressing strong interest in signing the 29-year-old English captain. However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been firm in his decision not to sell Kane to a Premier League competitor.
The English striker has just one year remaining on his current contract. He has been a coveted target for the Red Devils, with admiration for the striker dating back to the tenure of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United have expressed keen interest in signing Kane, while Erik ten Hag is also known to be a strong admirer of the English forward.
Previous reports have even suggested his desire to remain in England and surpass Alan Shearer’s record for the most goals in the Premier League. Hence, a move to Old Trafford appeared logical for the experienced striker.
However, Ornstein has just made a shocking revelation by confirming that Bayern Munich have formally submitted a bid for Kane.
The initial bid includes a base amount of €70 million, with potential additional payments based on performance or other factors. The Bavarian giants are actively searching for a new forward this summer, and Kane is a top priority for them. The English striker has impressed with 32 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions this season.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg recently stated that Bayern Munich have become Harry Kane’s preferred choice for his next destination. The German giants were confident they could reach an agreement for a transfer fee “below €100 million in total.”
Thomas Tuchel is actively seeking to bolster their attacking options during this summer transfer window, with the Spurs striker ranking high on their list of priorities.
Bayern Munich had a turbulent season despite clinching the Bundesliga title on the dramatic final day. The departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona last summer has left a void that the club is still grappling to fill.
Although Levy is determined not to sell Kane to a Premier League competitor, United’s interest still persists. It remains to be seen how the Tottenham chairman will respond to Bayern’s latest bid, but it is expected that he will demand a fee exceeding £100 million for the 29-year-old striker.
Recent weeks have seen a decline in Kane‘s links with Man United as the club focuses on securing deals for players in different positions due to financial considerations and ongoing uncertainties surrounding their takeover process.
Tottenham find themselves in a vulnerable position concerning Kane’s contract, as he only has one year remaining. Negotiations for a new contract were postponed last year as the 29-year-old focused on helping the club secure Champions League qualification.
However, it turned out to be a disastrous and chaotic season for Tottenham, with three managerial changes and an eighth-place finish, resulting in them missing out on European competition entirely.
The Red Devils could exploit Tottenham’s weaknesses, but they need to convince Spurs to sell their prized asset for a lower fee. United have been linked with a number of strikers, like Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
However, we believe that Kane will fit perfectly into Ten Hag’s system due to his hold-up play, better positional awareness, and excellent finishing abilities.
Although United are focused on other targets, they can still test Tottenham’s resolve this summer. Kane is a luxury signing, and hence, the club would feel comfortable getting him only if they raised money through player sales.
