SL Benfica join FC Porto in Manchester United full-back Alex Telles race
Manchester United star Alex Telles is attracting interest from SL Benfica and FC Porto in the ongoing transfer window, according to Torcedores (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Eagles have joined Estadio do Dragao side in the race to acquire the services of the Brazil international this summer. Whether the left-back will decide to go back to Portugal remains to be seen.
For now, Benfica want the 30-year-old on loan. They plan to sign the defender on a permanent transfer in the summer of 2024 when his current contract with the Red Devils will expire.
However, the Old Trafford side have no intention of letting Telles leave on a temporary move. The club will look to get back some of the money they spent to buy the defender from Porto in 2020.
The Brazilian previously thrived at the Dragoes before United came knocking. Unfortunately, the full-back has been unable to make a big enough mark at the Manchester-based club.
Last season, he spent time on loan at Sevilla and started in the Europa League final, which the La Liga outfit won. But over the years, the 30-year-old has mostly been a bit-part player at the Old Trafford side.
As things stand, the Red Devils have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in their ranks for the left-hand side of the defence. The England international was Erik ten Hag’s preferred option in the previous campaign.
However, the former Feyenoord star was also handed a number of opportunities. However, the 23-year-old still has a lot of growing to do.

Still, our left-back area looks to have enough cover going into next season. Therefore, Telles is seemingly surplus to requirements. The Brazilian is also not getting any younger. Hopefully, United will be able to cash in on him this summer.
