Manchester United ready to part ways with midfield star for £40m this summer

Manchester United will demand £40m for Scott McTominay this summer

As per Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United will consider offers in the region of £40m for midfielder Scott McTominay during this summer window.

The report also reveals that the price tag could put off the clubs who are chasing the signature of the Scotland international. Newcastle United are among them.

A few days ago, it was revealed that West Ham United are eyeing a move for the 26-year-old as David Moyes is looking to potentially replace Declan Rice in the team. It remains to be seen whether the Hammers will be put off by this price tag.

McTominay and Fred are tipped to leave United this summer. But, the former’s contract runs until 2025 while the latter’s term expires next summer. So, there might be more pressure to let go of the latter as soon as possible.

McTominay, on the other hand, is a decent player who can do a job for the team as and when required. He is not good enough to start games regularly for United under Erik ten Hag. Things were different back in the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer days.

So, if the Scotsman accepts that he would be a fringe player here, the club won’t be under pressure to sell him this summer.

However, if he has aims to play regular minutes, it would only be right that he is sold to a club that can offer him that in abundance.

Keeping that in mind, if the £40m price tag is putting off potential suitors, United should be ready to negotiate that price and make sure the deal happens.

Given the player’s quality and current status in the squad, even a £30m for McTominay’s sale should be considered good by the Red Devils.
