Chelsea turn down Manchester United’s latest bid for Mason Mount

Manchester United made a third bid worth £55m for Mason Mount and will walk away from the deal if Chelsea reject it

As per Sky Sports, Manchester United made their third worth around £55m to sign Chelsea star Mason Mount in this transfer window.

The report reveals that the Blues are now holding out for £65m for the England international. United, on the other hand, will not increase the amount of their latest bid and walk away from the deal if it is rejected.

We know that the Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag wants to sign Mount this summer to add athleticism and work rate to the midfield. But he has seemingly suffered a setback in that pursuit, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the bid has been rejected.

The 24-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires next summer. It was revealed a couple of days ago that Chelsea would risk letting the player go for free next year rather than bulging on their price valuation for him.

Keeping that in mind, it makes no sense for the West London club to be this stubborn about the price tag. He won’t sign an extension there and leave for free next year. So, why did we not compromise now and accept the improved bid from United?

It is good for the Red Devils to not bow down to Chelsea’s demands and have their set bar for what they can spend on a player. With a year left in his contract, Mount cannot be worth as much as the Blues are demanding.

If this deal indeed still somehow goes through in the coming days, it would be a massive coup for United because the England international is someone very high on the transfer shortlist for ten Hag.

When the manager wants a player that much, you know he has an exact plan for him if or when he joins the squad. Moreover, why would Chelsea want to keep a player who clearly wants to leave?

But it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will return with a third bid now. Chelsea want £65million including add ons and that isn’t peanuts. If Man United walk away now, our fans can’t really complain because spending so much on a player you can sign for free next year is bonkers.
