Saudi clubs are offering an exit route to Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea
As per Evening Standard, clubs in Saudi Arabia are offering an exit route to Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea this summer.
A couple of days ago, the Athletic (subscription required) revealed that de Gea and United are yet to find an agreement over a new contract. The Spaniard’s terms at Old Trafford expires at the end of this month.
Erik ten Hag cannot guarantee him the number-one role in the team even if the player signs a new deal with the club.
Coming back to the original source of this article, de Gea is offered wages less than his £375,000-per-week by United. Saudi clubs are willing to offer the 32-year-old a substantial pay rise if they sign him.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, have begun talks with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana for a potential move in this window. Ten Hag knows the Cameroon international from his time together at Ajax.
Onana is a goalkeeper who would suit perfectly with what the United boss wants his gloveman to do. The Inter stopper is great with the ball at his feet, can sweep up a large space in behind the defence and can stop shots from all angles.
For de Gea, who clearly cannot play the ball on the ground and become an outfield in possession, it would be right to leave the club for free this summer.
Now, whether he goes to Saudi for a pay rise and signs for any club in Europe, is his choice. But, leaving United is the only way for him to resurrect his career going in the mid-30s.

From the Red Devils’ viewpoint, they should not mind letting the Spaniard leave for free. They must focus on signing Onana and bolster the goalkeeping department soon.
