Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba ‘offered’ to Manchester United and Newcastle United
Manchester United and Premier League rivals Newcastle United have been ‘offered’ the services of Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba, according to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News).
As things stand, the Burkina Faso international is in discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a switch to the English top flight. However, the centre-back’s camp have put other teams on alert as well regarding his availability.
To that end, the Red Devils and the Tyneside outfit have been informed about the defender. Also, Liverpool have been contacted as well to drum up interest in the 24-year-old.
As a result, Spurs are worried about not getting a hold of Tapsoba’s signature. The North London side will not be able to offer the Burkinabe national European football next season after finishing eighth in the PL table.
The defender has developed into a quality centre-back over the years at the Bay Arena side. In the 2022/23 campaign, the 24-year-old was once again a key player for the Black and Reds under Xabi Alonso.
At Newcastle, Eddie Howe has done an impressive job. The Magpies made it into the top four last season, securing a place in the Champions League. Their defence heavily relied on Fabian Schar and Sven Botman.
On the other hand, Man United finished third in the league, one place above the Tyneside outfit. Our backline saw the pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane thrive in the previous campaign.
However, Erik ten Hag was also able to call upon Victor Lindelof consistently, who put in a decent shift. However, Harry Maguire did not put in encouraging performances when given a chance by the Dutch manager. His future at the club is uncertain.

Therefore, if our captain decides to look for pastured new this summer, we will evidently need to reinforce the defence. In that case, Tapsoba seems like a decent option. But will the Old Trafford side enter the race to sign the 24-year-old? Only time will tell.
