Arsenal set to accept personal terms with Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber amidst Manchester United links
Premier League rivals Arsenal are set to accept personal terms with Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber amidst links to Manchester United, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Express).
The Gunners are looking to bolster their backline in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the North London side are interested in acquiring the services of the Holland international.
As things stand, the Emirates Stadium side are advancing in their bid to get a hold of the centre-back’s signature. Now, Mikel Arteta’s team are expected to put in a new offer on the Eredivisie outfit’s table for the 22-year-old.
However, the Old Trafford side are also looking to reinforce their backline this summer. Erik ten Hag has been tipped to reunite with Timber. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich also have the Holland international on their radar.
Having made his way through the youth ranks at Ajax, the defender developed under Ten Hag. Over the years, the 22-year-old has been one of the most promising prospects in Europe.
Arsenal relied on William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes for most of last season. However, when Rob Holding was called upon, the English national left a lot to be desired. Subsequently, the Gunners slipped up in the league title race and lost out to Manchester City.
On the other hand, United have steadied their ship with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in defence. The France and Argentine nationals were the gaffer’s go-to players in the previous campaign.
On the bench, Victor Lindelof did the job when he was needed in the absence of the 2022 World Cup winner. Luke Shaw also put in some impressive displays in central defence. We also have Harry Maguire in our ranks for now.
