Manchester United-linked Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves close to Al-Hilal transfer
Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) star Ruben Neves is close to making a move to Al-Hilal amidst links to Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.
The Molineux Stadium side have accepted a £47 million offer from the Saudi Arabian outfit for the Portugal international. As things stand, the midfielder is expected to agree personal terms with the Riyadh-based club.
At the moment, the 26-year-old’s current contract with the West Midlands-based club is set to expire at the end of next season. Apart from the Red Devils, Spanish giants Barcelona have also been associated with his signature.
Wolves signed Neves in the summer of 2017 from FC Porto. Over the years, the Portuguese has developed admirably in the English top flight. He has been a key part of the Molineux Stadium side’s survival bids season after season.
In the previous campaign, Julen Lopetegui counted on the midfielder heavily. In 35 appearances in the Premier League for the West Midlands-based club, the 26-year-old found the back of the net six times and provided one assist.
Recently, the Saudi Pro League has seen a number of quality players join them. Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Al-Nassr in January. Karim Benzema also joined Al-Ittihad this summer. Subsequently, the likes of N’Golo Kante, Hakim Ziyech and Riyad Mahrez are also being eyed by clubs in the Middle Eastern country.
Erik ten Hag relied on Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to get the best out of United last season. Without them, the gaffer was unable to consistently rely on the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek.
Towards the end of the campaign, the Denmark international seemed to struggle to keep up with the piece of the game at times. Therefore, we could evidently do with some cover or an upgrade over the 31-year-old in the team.
