Romano says Saudi Arabian clubs are ‘insisting’ Manchester United star to make summer move

Gary Neville feels Manchester United need to part ways with David de Gea soon.

Manchester United keeper David de Gea is the subject of interest from clubs of the Saudi Arabian League

According to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), clubs from Saudi Arabia are trying to persuade David De Gea to join the league with the contract extension yet not fully completed.

De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove in Erik Ten Hag’s first season in charge but there are still question marks over whether the Spaniard is the right player to lead the team forward in the coming years.

His inability to play out from the back, which is a prerequisite in how modern football is played and also being weak to show authority in the box has made Ten Hag consider the need to bring in another goalkeeper.

Clubs from Saudi, it seems, are keeping tabs on the situation and willing to provide De Gea with an escape if indeed the club and player are not able to find an agreement.

While there have been talks of a verbal agreement being there between the parties, De Gea’s costly error in the FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City has caused the club to reconsider the situation.

While the Spaniard can be given the status of a club legend, having made the most appearances for a goalkeeper in a United jersey, it is clear that he would not suit the system that Ten Hag wants to implement.

It was speculated that since the club was looking at other positions to prioritise first, maybe De Gea would at least remain between the sticks for the coming season.

It remains to be seen how this situation pans out but in all probability, the chances of the club parting ways with De Gea remain less when there are other important positions to be covered.
