Diogo Costa, David Raya and Andre Onana on Manchester United goalkeeping shortlist
Manchester United have FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, Brentford’s David Raya and Inter Milan’s Andre Onana on their shortlist, according to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Erik ten Hag is keen on adding competition to the Red Devils’ squad in between the sticks. To that end, the trio of shot-stoppers is being eyed by the Old Trafford side ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
However, the Manchester-based club are not the only team in the Premier League looking to bolster their goalkeeping ranks. English top-flight rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur could also be in the running for any of the three aforementioned players.
As things stand, David de Gea is the number one at United. The Spaniard was counted on by the Dutch manager in the 2022/23 campaign. However, he has not looked comfortable under the former Ajax head coach.
Ten Hag seems keen on playing the ball out from the back, an area the former Atletico Madrid star leaves a lot to be desired in. As a result, the Dutch manager could opt to sign a shot-stopper capable of meeting his demands in possession.
Also, De Gea’s current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire in the coming weeks. Thus, there is uncertainty regarding the 32-year-old’s future at the Old Trafford side, with the veteran goalkeeper yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Costa has shone at Porto over the last two seasons. The 23-year-old Portugal international’s performances with the Primeira Liga outfit in the Champions League last season caught a lot of people’s attention.
Onana also shone in the UCL, making it to the final with Inter. The 27-year-old Cameroonian has previously played under Ten Hag. As for Raya, the 27-year-old Spain international has showcased his talent in the Premier League in the previous two years.
