Manchester United will make a formal bid for Mason Mount, who plays for Premier League rivals Chelsea, ‘soon’, according to Sky Sports.

The midfielder’s current contract at the Blues is set to expire at the end of next season. With just over a year left on his deal, the Red Devils have a set price tag in their mind and do not want to overpay.

However, as things stand, there is still a gap in the valuation between the Old Trafford side and the West London club. As a result, the Manchester-based club are also eyeing alternatives in case a move for the England international fails.

Brighton & Hove Albion youngster Moises Caicedo is also on Man United’s radar. The Red Devils have asked to be kept informed regarding the Ecuador international. The Old Trafford side also admire West Ham United’s Declan Rice.

Mount made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea before establishing himself in the Blues’ senior squad. It was Frank Lampard in the 2019/20 season who gave the 24-year-old regular opportunities in the first team.

The English national has been one of the Stamford Bridge side’s best players over the years. However, in the previous campaign, the playmaker was underwhelming and lost his place in the team.

Man United’s engine room relied on the partnership of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro last season. While the Danish national started off brilliantly, towards the end of the campaign, the 31-year-old seemingly struggled to keep up with the pace.

On the bench, Fred and Scott McTominay have been inconsistent in their performances. Marcel Sabitzer did well after joining on loan in January. But the Austrian is set to return to Bayern Munich.

Mount is capable of being a world-class playmaker. Right now, the English national is going through a rough patch. Hopefully, the Old Trafford side will be able to agree on reasonable terms with Chelsea and Erik ten Hag is able to get the best out of the 24-year-old at the Theatre of Dreams.
