Jurrien Timber unsure about Ajax Amsterdam future amidst Manchester United interest
Ajax Amsterdam defender Jurrien Timber is unsure about his future in the Netherlands this summer amidst interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been linked with the Holland international’s signature ever since Erik ten Hag’s appointment in the club’s dugout. At the Eredivisie outfit, the centre-back developed and rose through the ranks under the Dutch manager.
In the summer of 2022, the gaffer wanted to reunite with the 21-year-old. In the end, we ended up acquiring the services of Lisandro Martinez from De Godenzonen.
However, United are not the only team eyeing a move for Timber. Premier League rivals Liverpool also have the youngster on their radar. The Anfield side have his compatriot Virgil van Dijk in their ranks.
The 21-year-old has developed into a fine defender. He is also versatile and is capable of playing at right-back. We have the advantage of Ten Hag knowing the Holland international well.
Speaking to Vandaag Inside (h/t Evening Standard), Timber left the door open on where he will be playing football next season. The Holland international was hesitant to make any claims regarding his time at the Eredivisie outfit.
“Will I stay with Ajax anyway? I’m not sure, I can’t say that. I’m not in talks with Ajax now. My agent had a good talk a few times, but it’s not like we’re talking about anything right now.”
At United, the 21-year-old’s former teammate Lisandro Martinez has shone. In the previous campaign, the Argentina international became a key player for the Old Trafford side.
Alongside Raphael Varane, the former Ajax defender has formed an impressive partnership. Ten Hag also has Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at his disposal at the moment. Although, the to have fallen down the pecking order since the Dutch manager’s arrival.
