Manchester United have made no progress in the deal for Mason Mount due to the demands from Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Stamford Bridge side have set an asking price of €80 million on the England international’s head and have been adamant. However, it does not seem like the Red Devils are keen on spending that much on the playmaker. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign (transfermarkt).

However, the Old Trafford side have sent a calming message to the midfielder. The Manchester-based club have confirmed their intention to get a hold of his signature. We have also already agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old.

Mount is a Chelsea academy graduate. However, he is eager to make a switch to United. But it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will come to terms with the West London club.

The English national made his way through the youth ranks at the Stamford Bridge side and has been a pivotal player for them over the years.

However, the 24-year-old was unable to showcase the full extent of his talent in the 2022/23 season. The playmaker struggled for most of the campaign and lost his place in the Blues’ starting lineup.

At United, Bruno Fernandes has played as our attacking midfielder for several seasons. The Portugal international is a key player for the Red Devils. But Mount is also capable of playing in the number eight position.

Christian Eriksen was favoured by Erik ten Hag alongside Casemiro in the middle of the park in the gaffer’s debut campaign in the Old Trafford side’s dugout. Unfortunately, the Danish national petered off a bit in the final months of the season.

Mount is an exceptional talent. Players like him are not available on the market often. However, Chelsea’s asking price is evidently a bit too steep. But the Manchester-based club need to be patient, and hopefully, we will get a deal for the English national over the line.
