Juventus shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny attracting ‘keen interest’ from Manchester United
Wojciech Szczesny, who currently plays for Juventus, is attracting ‘keen interest’ from Manchester United ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to TuttoJuve (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Poland international could be on the market for £8.5 million this summer. Premier League rivals Chelsea also have the 33-year-old on their radar. His current contract at the Old Lady runs until June 2025.
Apart from the former Arsenal shot-stopper, the Red Devils also have been linked with other goalkeepers. FC Porto’s Diogo Costa and England number one Jordan Pickford have been associated with the Old Trafford side.
As things stand, David de Gea is set to become a free agent in the coming weeks. The Spaniard’s deal with United will end soon. While the Red Devils want to keep a hold of the veteran shot-stopper, they want him to take a significant pay cut.
The 32-year-old made his way to the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid. Since then, he has been the first choice in between the sticks at the Manchester-based club.
Last season, Erik ten Hag trusted De Gea in goal. The gaffer had the likes of Tom Heaton and Jack Butland as backups. However, despite some impressive displays in the previous campaign, the Spaniard did not look comfortable at times and made a few glaring errors.
Szczesny has been in Italy for some time now. After spending time on loan at AS Roma from the Gunners, Juventus subsequently acquired the shot-stopper’s services.
The Polish national has been ever-present in the Bianconeri’s starting lineup for some time now. In the 2022/23 campaign, he made 40 appearances in all competitions, keeping 19 clean sheets.

However, the 33-year-old does not seem like a sensible option for United. He is not getting any younger. Instead, it would be wise for the Old Trafford side to pursue a quality goalkeeper who will fit Ten Hag’s style of play.
