Facundo Pellistri is happy with the experience gained in his first season at Manchester United
The young Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri is happy with the experience gained in his first season at Manchester United.
United signed Pellistri back in October 2020 itself, but sent him on loan for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons to Spanish side Alaves.
In his first campaign as a senior Red Devils player, the 21-year-old although amassed only 280 minutes of playing time, has gained a lot of experience that will stand him in good stead going forward.
Here’s what the former CA Penarol player said (h/t Manchester United website):
“Well, it was a good season. And, luckily, we could classify for the Champions League. That was the main focus we had in pre-season. Also, we could win the Carabao Cup. Of course, it was a long season, full of matches and I gained a lot of experience here. So I’m happy to be here in this club and to have my full first season being a Manchester United player.”
Apart from playing a few minutes here and there for the Red Devils, Pellistri played for Uruguay in the 2022 World Cup as well. The experience gained in Qatar while playing football at the highest possible level would help him.
The 21-year-old is a talented player who can play on either wing and cause trouble to opposition fullbacks. He is great at dribbling, passing, and finding different angles to create chances or score goals.
The next step for Pellistri is to do well in the pre-season and catch the eye of Erik ten Hag. If that is done, then we can expect the latter to give more game time to the former next season.
With Jadon Sancho not doing enough as a big-money winger, there is a spot up for grabs in the team. Pellistri must see this as an opening and try to crash through the door if possible.

The Uruguayan should also see how Alejandro Garnacho rose to prominence in this team. The latter started by making instant impacts from the substitute’s bench in games. Now, he is one of the go-to players when ten Hag wants something different in attack.
