Scotland international Scott McTominay will be allowed to leave Manchester United in the upcoming transfer window, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Metro).

The Red Devils are ‘happy’ to part ways with the midfielder this summer. However, the Old Trafford side want a fee ‘in excess of £30 million‘ to consider letting him depart.

Premier League rivals Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the 26-year-old’s services. However, the Magpies will not have much to spend in the coming months and the United academy graduate is not at the top of their wishlist.

McTominay made his way through the youth ranks at the Old Trafford side. Subsequently, the Scottish national made a place for himself in the Red Devils’ first-team setup.

Over the last few years, the midfielder has been an ever-present member of the Manchester-based club’s starting lineup. But Erik ten Hag’s arrival has seen the 26-year-old fall down the pecking order.

Newcastle are flying high under Eddie Howe. The Toons will be playing in the Champions League next season. Bruno Guimaraes has been a pivotal player in the Tyneside outfit’s engine room. The Brazil international has been one of their best players recently.

At United, Casemiro has made the number six position his own. Ten Hag has counted heavily on the 31-year-old. In the former Real Madrid star’s absence, the Red Devils have struggled to get positive results.

Christian Eriksen is the other midfielder the gaffer has chosen ahead of the likes of Fred and McTominay. The Scotland international was even behind January loan signing Marcel Sabitzer in the gaffer’s plans.

The 26-year-old is in his prime physical years. At the Old Trafford side, getting regular game time seems like a challenging task. Therefore, it would be wise for the midfielder to revive his career elsewhere.
